For the last few months, we have introduced and reviewed quite number of coolers; some of them come with innovative design while some of them have outstanding performance. Today we will introduce you another cooler manufacturer; Titan. Titan is not new to us as we have been testing their products for the past few years. Let us have a look on their latest cooler; TTC-NK85TZ/Fenrir.
TITAN Technology Limited was established in Taiwan by a group of progressive and experienced engineers in their respective fields. Since our establishment with over 16 years of manufacturing experience with high quality cooling devices for various kinds of PCs, we have successfully gained worldwide recognition for our innovative designs.

Package & Contents
All the Titan products will have a unique codename and TTC-NK85TZ is called as Fenrir. Titan Fenrir comes with a transparent plastic container which is full with interesting and eye catching diagrams, logos and features. The plastic container is a sealed type but we will prefer a cardboard box as it can be recycled and more long lasting.
Some of the main features or advantages of Titan Fenrir are PWM intelligent fan controller, 8mm heat pipes, 120mm fan, heat pipe direct touch as well as universal bracket design which even supports Intel latest platform; LGA1366/i7. All these features are not new or unique but combining all of them together will create a unique and great product.
Let us see what are the accessories that come together with Titan Fenrir. Those accessories besides the heatsink cooler are 120mm fan, LGA1366 back plate, back plate, clip, 4 x screws for clip, 4 x bolt, 4 x nut, 2 x fan wire clip, 4 x white insulating cushion (AMD), 4 x black insulating cushion (Intel), 4 to 3 pin cable, thermal grease and user's manual.
For the mounting installation, it will require a back plate and a clip. There are two kind of mounting bracket; one for LGA1366 and the other one for the rest of the sockets. The clip is a universal clip which will be used to fasten the cooler on the mounting bracket. Other mounting accessories like nut, screw and cushion are packed in separate bags for better identification.
The Multilanguage user's manual is a complete and detail guide but if the photo can be bigger and more colorful then it will be much clearer. Two fan clips are included which are used to secure the 120mm fan on the cooler while the 4 to 3-pin cable is for those are still using older type of motherboard where it doesn't come with any 4-pin connector. A Titan royal thermal grease is bundled together in a sealed bag.
The physical outline design of Titan Fenrir is quite similar with other tower coolers that we have reviewed previously. Tower cooler always has very promising performance and this should be the same for Titan Fenrir. However due to its height problem, most of the cheap, slim ATX or smaller PC cases will not compatible with it. Hence it is advisable to check the compatibility before purchase it and for your information; its dimension is ~ 156 x 124 x 107mm.
As we mentioned previously the physical outline for such tower cooler will have very similar design and this is same for Titan Fenrir. Titan Fenrir is constructed by copper heat pipes and aluminum fins where this is the most economic combination with promising result and so far we still haven't seen a full copper tower cooler as such cooler will be extremely heavy and costly.
Overall Titan Fenrir has "X" aluminum fin design and only a single 120mm fan is supported. The fins of Titan Fenrir have unique design to reduce air resistance to enhance the cooling performance as well as reducing the noise. There is some way to identify whether the cooler can support single or dual fans and the simplest way is to check its fin design; symmetrical fin structure will support dual fans. In order to maximize the cooling efficiency, it is advisable to use the fan as air intake and blow the fresh air toward the fin rather than sucking out from the fins.
Titan Fenrir has total four U-shaped copper heat pipes with 8mm which supports up to 160W power consumption. These 8mm diameter heat pipes are one of the major contributors that make it one of the legend coolers in the market as most of the other coolers are just using 6mm copper heat pipes.
The base of the Titan Fenrir is the simplest structure that we have seen among the rest of the tower coolers that we have reviewed so far. The base has a cross bar which allows the clip to be fasten the cooler on the motherboard mounting bracket but only in one way direction unlike those smaller vertical blowing cooler.
Besides the 8mm heat pipe, Titan also uses latest technology; heat pipe direct touch where the copper heat pipes are merged together with the aluminum base. With such direct touch feature, the heat will be transferred from the processor to the copper heat pipes directly; reduce one layer from base to copper heat pipes.
In term of 120mm fan, Titan chose a PWM intelligent fan where it will automatically adjust the fan speed to balance in between the performance and noise according to the system load. The fan has fan speed from 800 to 2200 RPM with maximum 78.41 CFM and 39dBA.
Installation, Testing & Performance
Before the real installation, we have performed the simulation installation first in order to understand better rather than trial and error. Here are the complete full installation of Titan Fenrir with the with LGA775 mounting bracket. Fan installation on Titan Fenrir is much easily than other tower coolers because Titan adds a hook in the middle of the fan clip so that user can mount the fan on the cooler easily.
Since Titan Fenrir is using unique mounting bracket, motherboard removal is necessary and we will use the standard back plate for LGA775 setup. The first problem of Titan Fenrir installation is here where user needs to ho hold the motherboard and fasten the back plate with the four sets of bolt and screw; quite troublesome. Basically this issue can be solved by integrating the screw with the back plate but by doing so Titan most probably needs to separate the AMD and Intel back plate; of course cost will be increased. However this is really benefit the users so we hope Titan will consider to improve this for the next revision or upcoming model.
Next problem we have encountered is the fastening the Titan Fenrir on the motherboard mounting bracket as user needs to use thumb to secure the four nuts on the mounting bolts. There is a simple solution for Titan to solve this issue where the nut should be replaced by screw nut so user can fasten these screw nuts easily with just a screwdriver.
Here are couple more pictures of Titan Fenrir installed on a motherboard. The fan is advisable to be installed on the cooler after the cooler is installed on the motherboard as the fan will block the user to secure the nut on the mounting bracket.
Due to the giant size of Titan Fenrir, the best way to install this cooler is to install everything outside the case else it may take longer time to do so. However we found that Titan Fenrir doesn't really have any compatibility issue with other components like motherboard chipset, rear fan, PSU and etc except its height problem. Now it's time for us to focus on its performance.

Here are the performance of Titan Fenrir and some comparison with other top coolers that are available in the market right now. As you can see Titan Fenrir is performing quite well and we would say excellent for a single 120mm silent fan tower cooler. Noise is barely noticeable inside a closed PC case; at least lower than CCF.
Titan Fenrir is a fantastic CPU cooler with such outstanding performance and it is one of the best single 120mm fan CPU coolers that we have tested so far. MSRP of Titan Fenrir is around 49USD and it is not expensive at all for a complete set of tower CPU cooler. Furthermore it comes with high quality PWM intelligent fan which helps to gain the balancing between performance and noise. We highly recommend this tower cooler for you if there isn't any height compatibility issue as well as the slightly hassle installation process.
* Good performance for such low noise cooler
* Four U-shaped 8mm copper heat pipes
* Heat pipe direct touch
* Support multiple sockets including LGA1366
* Silent PWM intelligent 120mm fan
* Installation could be further simplified
Thanks to Titan for providing this sample for us to review.
