Fortunately we have a chance to attend one of this road show tours; Penang Gurney Plaza which was held last weekend; 6th to 8th November 2009. During the road show tour, some experts from Microsoft gave some demo and explanation regarding Window 7; the 7th edition of Window.
1st Edition: Window 1.0
2nd Edition: Window 2.0
3rd Edition: Window 3.0/NT
4th Edition: Window 95/98
5th Edition: Window 2000/ME/XP
6th Edition: Window Vista
7th Edition: Window 7

We don't plan to talk much about the features and benefits of Window 7 since it is not our objectives today. In short Window 7 is an OS with better user interface, ubiquitous computing, natural human interfaces, cloud computing and so on. FYI, here are the retail price for Window 7;
Window 7 Starter : OEM only
Window 7 Home Basic : RM279
Window 7 Home Premium (32) : RM369
Window 7 Home Premium (64) : RM389
Window 7 Home Premium (box) : RM429
Window 7 Professional : RM475
Window 7 Ultimate (32/64) : RM649
Window 7 Ultimate (box) : RM729
Besides the Microsoft booth, other partners took this opportunity to show off their Window 7 machines such as Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Lenovo, Sony and AMD. Intel is the platform partner but frankly to say we couldn't find any single track of them. Anyway other indirect partners are Digi and HWM as the media partners.
AMD showed off their Vision Technology by combining three 24" LCD monitors into single display which is absolutely fantastic especially in gaming; quite number of youngster tried out this Vision Technology with some racing and shooting games.
Besides that they also displayed their latest high end graphic card; ATI Radeon HD5870 with MSI motherboard; pretty attractive but the rig was hidden at the back of the LCD monitors so it didn't draw a lot of attention from the crowd.
One of the machines that gained a lot of attention is Dell Studio One 19 which is an All-In-One touch screen system with elegant white casing; only a single power cord will able to wake up this monster without other accessories like mouse, keyboard and etc; its MSRP is RM3999. Besides that Dell Inspiron mini 10v (RM1299) and Inspiron 13z (RM2399 & RM2949) were one of the hot selling products during the road show.
Another monster during this road show is HP TouchSmart 300 (RM3588) which is another All-In-One touch screen system which is powered by AMD CPU in black casing. Another desktop is HP Pavilion All-In-One Desktop; MS216D (RM2288). HP Pavilion DM3 is a brand new notebook from HP with 13.3" LCD which is being sold at RM2699.
There are couple of interesting and great notebooks from Acer such as Aspire Timeline 4810TG (RM2999), Aspire one (RM1299), Aspire 4736Z (RM1899), TravelMate 8471 (3488) and so on. Acer Aspire one netbook is one of the best good looking netbooks which is powered by 10.1" LED LCD but this is old model as it only comes with Window XP Home not Window 7 Starter.
Asus Eee PC Seashell 1005HA (RM1499) and 1101HA (RM1699) are another two popular models with 11.6" LED backlight, 802.11n and its battery is able to last up to 11 hours; pretty impressive. Other models like Asus K40AB (RM2299), Asus K40IN (RM2699 or RM2799), Asus U80V (RM3199), Asus Eee PC T91 (RM1899) are available during the fair as well.
Lenovo also presented some great deals during this road show such as IdeaPad S10-2 & S10 at only RM1199 where one comes with Atom N280 CPU while another older model comes with Atom N270 CPU but free 2nd year carry in warranty as the compensation. For higher end model, there is Lenovo IdeaPad G230 which is being sold at RM2699. Besides that some Sony VAIO notebooks were displayed at Digi booth as well.
Microsoft marketing stuffs were giving some live demo and presentation for Window 7. This is a very good session which gave better understanding regarding the benefits and features of Window 7 rather than just reading from the specifications or over the web. Some t-shirt and freebies were given away throughout the event and some HP gaming competitions too.
Overall this is a very successful event that brought by Microsoft team together with its official partners. However we felt that the event was much silent than KL road show; maybe due to the walk-in visitors but we do hope to see more such informative and great IT events across Malaysia.
